Five square metres
A medium dog needs about five square metres of considered space. Not a room — five metres, distributed.
The mistake is thinking in rooms. Dogs think in positions: a place to sleep out of traffic, a place to watch the door, a place to eat that is not the place they sleep.
The three positions
Rest — 1.2m², against a wall, out of the main circulation path.
Watch — 0.8m², with a sightline to the entrance.
Feed — 0.5m², hard floor, away from rest.
The remaining two and a half metres are circulation you already have. Position them well and a studio flat works better than a badly arranged house.
